    Rock Run Crawl 2015

Im sure most of you have heard about the rock crawl competition at Rock Run on August 22nd. But, if you haven't or are on the fence about competing or spectating, I wanted to post some info here about it.

To compete in the competition you need a team consisting of a driver and a spotter. The spotter does not ride in the vehicle, but walks the course to spot the driver and vehicle through a series of gates. Points are assessed hitting cones, backing up, timing out, ect., which I'll post more about in another post. The team with the lowest score wins.

Your team will be placed in one of 3 classes, based on the capability of your vehicle. Vehicles will be inspected before the comp to ensure safety and vehicle class.

You MUST HAVE at least one fire extinguisher in the vehicle.
You MUST HAVE at least a factory 3 point seat belt for class 1 and 2, and at least a 4pt harness for class 3.
You MUST HAVE a DOT helmet for the driver and at least a bike helmet for the spotter.
You MUST sign the waver and pay $36 in the Rock Run office before competing.

The cost is $36 per team, the same cost as if you and a passenger were riding at rock run in a 4x4 on any regular day.

We will have a drivers meeting at 10am on August 22nd, in the parking lot next to the office at Rock Run. The competition will start at 11AM.

SPECTATORS, you MUST sign the waver and pay $5 in the Rock Run Office before driving to the comp area. If you have a car and want to see the comp, please find a ride with someone with a higher clearance vehicle so you don't damage yours on the dirt road.

    Judges and helpers:
We are looking for additional people to help during the day with judging and time keeping on the course, directing spectators, and helping with vehicle recovery on the courses. This is a great way to get involved without competing, and its free to help. Please contact me ASAP if you want to help, I need to know how many people are helping and who you are so you don't miss out.

    Thanks,
    Scott T.

    Scoring Rules

    Cone 10pts
The vehicle must pass between the cones of each gate cleanly to gain progression. If any part of the vehicle including tires and wheels touches a cone, 10pts will be assessed. A tire may not cross the vertical axis of a cone (float over) or 10pts will be assessed.

    Reverse 1pt
A reverse will be called when the vehicles transmission is used to move the vehicle in reverse or when gravity is used to move the vehicle in reverse to gain an advantage. Gates may be completed in reverse with 1pt assessed.

DNF Time out (10 min) 40pts
If time runs out before a vehicles front axle crosses the finish gate, 40pts will be assessed. Progression pts will be assessed after the 40pt DNF. Ex; a competitor pass cleanly through 3 gates then times out, the final score will be 40 ? 3 = 37pts. A vehicle must take the fastest, easiest exit off the course when time runs out while on course.

    Progression -1pt
To gain progression, a vehicle must pass between the cones of a gate without touching them. If all 4 wheels pass through and don?t touch a cone ?Clean?, -1 point will be assessed. To move on to the next gate, at least 3 wheels must pass through a gate without touching a cone. If this occurs, the gate will be taken ?dirty?, allowing progression to the next gate. No progression pts will be assessed for a dirty progression. Course flow must be followed. The gates must be completed in the designated order.

    Bonus -10 to -20pts (TBD)
Bonus pts will be determined the day of the event and vary from course to course. Bonus gates are usually more difficult than the normal gates, but give the ability to score better on a course.

    Winch 25pts
As soon as the winch line is tight, 25pts will be assessed. Tree saver straps must be used on trees along with a matt or blanket on the winch line.

    DNS 50pts
If a competitor fails to cross the start gate within the time limit, 50pts will be assessed. At least the front axle must cross the start gate.
